National Tsing Hua University (NTHU) has launched a new program on establishing the Taiwan-Malaysia Innovation Center for Clean Water and Sustainable Energy (WISE Center) under the support of Ministry of Science and Technology, Taiwan. The main goal of WISE center is to establish the water-energy nexus as well as to fullfil the UN sustainable development goals.
To establish the mutual collaboration, 7 representatives from UniversitiTeknologi Malaysia (UTM), Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP) and International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM), led by professor ZulkifliYusops, the director of Resource Sustainable Research Alliance (RSRA), UTM, visited NTHU in March, 2019. The Malaysian delegates were hosted by Senior Vice President Sinn-Wen Chen and visited serval Departments/Institute/Research Center including the Departments of Chemical Engineering, NTHU, Department of Biomedical Engineering and Environmental Sciences, NTHU, Industrial Technology Research Institute and Center for Space and Remote Sensing Research, National Central University. NTHU and Malaysian representatives also held the working meeting. Over the next few months, several events of WISE Centers have been planned which include the opening ceremony of overseas research center offices at UTM and UniMAP, a training program on Sustainable Energy and Environmental Development (SEED) Workshop at NTHU in May, and a NTHU-UTM-USM-UniMAPsymposium on Water Security and Sustainable Energy at UTM in August.
